The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission Brendan Carr on Thursday opened an investigation into the diversity practices in Verizon and raised the continued attempt by the telecommunications company to buy border communications.
Carr, a Republican appointed by President Donald Trump last month, earlier this month told NBC News-Parant Comcast that he was opening a similar investigation into promoting the company for diversity, capital and inclusion programs. Verizon is awaiting FCC approval for his purchase of a Frontier $ 9.6 billion.
“To help solve the FCC on these issues, please address the agency personnel who have worked on transactions pending Verizon on FCC,” Carr wrote. “They are the FCC personnel most popular with the operations of Verizon Second for their Union review activity.”
Carr criticized Verizon for his ongoing programs of promotion, capital and his involvement.
Verizon said in one state, “We are aware of the mayor’s concerns. We look forward to engaging with FCC staff on this issue. Verizon has always focused on the best talent to provide the best experiences for our customers.”
Carr said in his letter to Comcast earlier this month that the Commission will take “new action to ensure that any entity that FCC regulates to be with the protection of civil rights in the communications act … including by closing any program.
